Public Health and Primary Care (PHCP) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing evidence-informed primary healthcare research, policy, education, and practice in Africa and globally. Guided by the belief that lasting improvements in population health can only be achieved through strong, equitable, and resilient primary healthcare systems, the journal serves as a platform for the generation, dissemination, and application of knowledge that strengthens primary healthcare and improves health outcomes for individuals, families, and communities.
PHCP welcomes high-quality multidisciplinary contributions addressing all aspects of primary healthcare, including health promotion, disease prevention, community health, family medicine, maternal, newborn and child health, adolescent health, healthy ageing, mental health, rehabilitation, chronic disease management, infectious disease control, nutrition, immunization, environmental health, and the delivery of integrated people-centred health services. The journal also encourages submissions on health systems strengthening, universal health coverage, workforce development, digital health, quality of care, health financing, implementation research, health policy, health equity, and community engagement.
The journal publishes original research articles, implementation research, systematic and narrative reviews, policy analyses, program evaluations, quality improvement studies, clinical and public health case studies, perspectives, commentaries, and other scholarly work that contribute to strengthening primary healthcare. Particular emphasis is placed on research that bridges the gap between evidence and practice, evaluates innovative approaches to service delivery, informs policy and decision-making, and addresses contemporary challenges affecting primary healthcare systems.
PHCP is especially committed to amplifying research and experiences from Africa and other low- and middle-income settings, while fostering collaboration among researchers, practitioners, policymakers, educators, and communities. The journal seeks to promote evidence-based solutions that advance health equity, strengthen primary healthcare systems, and contribute to sustainable improvements in population health.
